BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (2025)

BMW is arguably the brand most closely associated with sports sedans thanks to multiple generations of dominance by the 3-series four-door. For buyers who want a style upgrade, though, the 2025 4-series Gran Coupe delivers just that without compromising the driving enjoyment found in the 3.

The Gran Coupe's fastback roofline also cleverly disguises its more generously sized cargo area and rear hatch, all the better for helping you justify the upgrade. A 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder is standard and can be had with either rear- or all-wheel drive; the M440i model is the performer though, with an overachieving 386-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six.

The high-tech curved display screen on the dashboard is a standout feature in an otherwise conservatively styled cabin, but we suspect most buyers will be more endeared to the Gran Coupe's taut road manners anyway. Those spunky driving dynamics, by the way, are more fun than what you'll find in similarly-priced rivals such as the Acura TLX, the Audi A5 Sportback, and the Volvo S60. For maximum performance, you'll have to upgrade to either the four-door M3 or the two-door M4, both of which offer even more powerful twin-turbocharged variants of the M440i's inline-six.
